Truth! Dance, Music, Puppetry and Spoken Word at Rosendale Theatre

Saturday, Aug. 11 is the world debut of Truth! at The Rosendale Theatre. Truth! is an original performance piece inspired by the life of Sojourner Truth featuring music, dance, spoken word and puppets co-created by the cast of local youth artists from ages 10 to 21. Truth! is a collaboration of the The Redwing Blackbird Puppet Theater, The Center for Creative Education, The A.J. Williams-Myers African Roots Library, Youth Arts @ The Rosendale Theatre and Good Gourd, a musical group under the direction of Shekere Percussion Master, Carol Caru Thompson. Original music by Rosendale middle-schoolers, Rhys Ellis and Maitreya Motel will be featured in the show. A former slave here in Ulster County during the 19th century, Sojourner Truth became an outspoken advocate for the abolition of slavery, temperance, and civil and women’s rights.

“All of the cast members have been learning about this strong and passionate woman. We have asked them to look inward to discover their own “truths” and are thrilled to see them stand up and share their discoveries onstage” stated Carrie Wykoff, Director of Youth Arts @ The Rosendale Theatre.

Truth! Is appropriate for the entire family and audience members will be invited to participate in a very special post-performance event outside of the theater.

The world premier of Truth! is produced as part of the Rosendale Theatre’s Summer Film & Performance Series for Families. This Series is funded with grant money made possible through the cooperation of Assembly member Kevin A. Cahill.

Truth! will be performed on Saturday, Aug. 11 at 11 a.m. at The historic Rosendale Theatre located at 408 Main St. in Rosendale. Tickets are $8 for children and members and $10 for adult non members.
