Sixth Annual Meatball Contest in Rosendale

Spot a meatball in a Norwegian cream sauce or a traditional Italian tomato sauce or even no sauce at all at the same location and you’ve probably come upon the Annual Meatball Contest at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Rosendale. There’s a good chance these meatballs were made by award-winning home cooks, local professional chefs or novice culinarians who spent hours perfectly seasoning, carefully forming, and then attractively presenting to each judge to taste—hopefully get a vote to win first place for the finest tasting meatball. Meatball contestant winners are announced that evening. We also have plenty of excellent door prizes and raffles to give away, not to mention food and beverages to go along with all those scrumptious meatballs. We had the largest turnout last year, which shows the locals truly enjoy this friendly competition. Judges (that’s folks like you coming to taste) rate each of the meatballs entered and we have a first, second and third place People’s Choice Award. There were also secret judges who awarded monetary first, second and third place prizes ($100, $50, $25). So, on Saturday, June 10, 12 to 15 cooks from the local area will again make their meatballs as a way to help raise funds to send a group of local children to a sleep away, week-long Catholic camp. If you think you make the best tasting meatballs and are interested in cooking, please contact Lisa Hansen at 845-389-8698 for specifics. However, if you’d just like to attend, taste, vote, and stick around for the results, we’d love to have you too. Cost is only $5 per person.
