Distinguished Speaker Series at SUNY New Paltz Presents Janus Adams: "Know When to Leave the Plantation"

Emmy Award-winning journalist, author, historian, member of the class of 1967, Janus Adams, returns to campus for her class's fiftieth reunion. In this discussion, she mines the wisdom of the Underground Railroad, extracting its power to rescue the freedom-seekers of today. Janus Adams was a student at SUNY New Paltz in the tumultuous sixties and she sought solace from the pressures of a segregated society in walks from campus to Historic Huguenot Street. Little did she know that she was following in the footsteps of the legendary abolitionist Sojourner Truth. In one telling incident, she was made aware of of the vestiges of slavery and the suppression of women’s rights driving American society. To her rescue came her grand-uncle’s mantra: “Know when to leave the plantation.” Tickets $10. Dessert reception and book signing follow lecture. Tickets also available through Parker Theatre Box Office: 845-257-3880.
