The Walkway Over the Hudson State Historic Park—a 19th century railroad bridge transformed into the world’s longest linear park—hosts a weekend full of running memories in New York State’s beautiful Mid-Hudson Valley. Runners of all abilities are invited to take part in one of three flat, fast and scenic races—a marathon, half-marathon, and the Mid-Hudson Road Runners 5K. USATF-certified, the half and full courses follow two paved, nationally recognized rail trails—Hudson Valley Rail Trail in Highland and the William R. Steinhaus Dutchess Rail Trail in Poughkeepsie. Participants get a true "runners high" as they cross and re-cross the Walkway, admiring picturesque views of the Hudson River and Catskill Mountains from 212 feet above the ground. Lots of PBs and BQs expected. Organizers of the "green" race have taken the Pledge of Sustainability outlined by Athletes for a Fit Planet again for 2017 --the Walkway Marathon is the first marathon in NYS to abide by this eco-friendly race blueprint.
